RECOVERY
Recovery from surgery takes place over days, weeks and even months for some people after surgery. Depending on the type of surgery, your health and function, this period of time can vary. Being aware of what your journey might look like and knowing how and when to ask for help is important.
PAIN AND ANALGESIA
Controlling pain is important after surgery in order to facilitate good brain function, sleep and walking. Your pain may be managed in a number of different ways including the use of a 'PCA'. Read more about it here.
EXERCISE
Early mobilisation (walking) after surgery is important for the prevention of complications and aids recovery. A physiotherapist may assess you and you may require the assistance of nursing staff to begin with.
GOING HOME
Most people are able to return directly home after surgery. If you think you might require assistance upon your return home, discuss this with Dr Norris so you can plan your discharge accordingly.
